Aikido, literally translated “the way of coming together with Ki” is a Japanese martial art with a strong philosophical bias, developed in the early 20th century by Morihei Ueshiba. Ueshiba, called O’Sensei (the great master) by aikidokas, drew inspiration from the techniques of Japanese samurai and martial arts and/or combat sports such as Daito ryu jiu jitsu, jiujitsu and kenjutsu. Ueshiba also added a moral value to the art of aikido.
