Taichi and Qigong

Our club offers both Taichi and Qigong in a separate class. Both are very complementary to Aikido. Both in terms of health and the kind of relaxed, effective Aikido we strive for as a club. Besides our regular series of classes, we try to invite a guest teacher every year. For example, we have welcomed Jesse Tsao several times. Qigong or the cultivation of life energy has been part of Chinese culture for over 4000 years. Our club also offers Taichi and Qigong classes, in cooperation with Yu Pei.

Health Impact

Taichi en Qigong , Yang & YingQigong is mainly practised to improve health. It combines slow, flowing movements with deep breathing. These seemingly simple exercises have a beneficial effect on our body and mind.
It is also the basis of Taichi, an ‘internal’ martial art. Here too, the health aspects are central to us. Taichi strengthens muscles and joints, increases flexibility and has a very relaxing effect. Each movement performed has a specific purpose. In contrast to the current fitness craze that emphasises fast, powerful movements, in Taichi we use slow, thoughtful movements. A number of clinical studies (check this link for example) have already proven that this leads to a level of fitness that is comparable to other sports. Due to the nature of the movements, Taichi is also extremely suitable for the elderly.

Experienced teacher

Our club also offers Taichi and Qigong classes, in cooperation with Yu Pei. Yu Pei received Taichi-Qigoung training from master Hsiung Wei. Hsiung Wei has developed his own simplified form of taichi, namely taichi dao yin. Taichi dao yin is therefore also very accessible to beginners. The basic concept of his teaching was how natural breathing and movement actually are, something that we as Westerners have actually lost somewhat. Through the simple movements, such as balancing and turning, the practitioner discovers, as it were, more ‘consciously’ his/her own body, own energy and ‘chi’. Yu pei’s exercises bring your mind, spirit and body into balance. Simple, just like nature itself. Classes are held fortnightly, on Saturdays from 10.30-12.00. Price per lesson: around 10€ (or 75€ for 9 lessons). Previous knowledge is not required. If you want to participate, just come along. Please wear comfortable clothing. You can find the exact dates of the lessons on our calendar.
